THE BEAUTIFUL EYES SERIES

“tributo a Ramon y Cajal”

UMBERTO CICERI

Santiago Ramon y Cajal received the Nobel Price in 1906 because he first discovered how our retina looked like and he descibed it with illustrative panels still inpiring to the present day. OPTHALMOLOGIST D’AZEGLIO, coherent with his research on perceptual experience, dedicates a proper tribute to this scientist delivering his drawings trasformed by Umberto Ciceri’s “interfering collages”; artist fond of neuro aesthetics who, like Cajal, lives and works in Barcelona. The collages are made of paper and conceived to let interfere with each other movements of twisted paper and interrupted perspectives, equiluminant iridescences and light and shadow variables. The attempt is to outline a biobased aesthetic theory able to engage creatively the receptiveness and stimulate the retina through an active partecipation towards these shaping and unrevelling figures.
